Trim your horse-keeping expenses by buying some of your incidentals at your local dollar store. It may take a little digging but you can find many non-horse-specific barn incidentals at your local dollar store—or other discounters—that can do the job and save you a significant amount of money in the long run. · Baby oil to highlight a horse’s muzzle before entering the show ring. It may also be helpful in removing burrs from manes and tails.

· Spray bottle to apply everything from fly repellent to coat conditioner. Given how often they are used, we probably should have picked up a few more.

· Small caddy to store bathing supplies such as shampoo and sponges.

· A hairbrush to detangle manes and tails (or for scratching itchy withers).
