The Cornell Equine Hospital and Cornell Cooperative Extension have announced the first fall 2026 lecture of their Equine Seminar Series. On Tuesday, September 15, Jordyn Boesch, DVM, PhD, DACVAA Founding Fellow-Pain Management (Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Clinical Sciences) will present “Equine Pain Management: From the Farm to the Operating Room to the ICU” via Zoom at 6 p.m. Eastern. 

These monthly virtual talks are presented by equine experts on important equine health and management topics. They are free to attend and open to the public. You must register via this link in order to attend.

This lecture will review the various strategies, from systemic medications to advanced regional anesthetic techniques, utilized on an out- or in-patient basis to manage acute pain in horses due to surgery, trauma, colic and other problems.

About the presenter

Boesch is an associate professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Cornell University CVM and adjunct associate professor at NYU, where she collaborated on research on the neurobiology of pain. She established the multidisciplinary, collaborative Cornell University Comparative Pain Program to further clinical service, research and education in pain management.

When on duty in the Equine Hospital she leads a team of staff in the provision of anesthesia and analgesia to equine patients. This includes continuous infusion of analgesic medications, epidural injection/ catheterization, peripheral nerve blocks and neurolytic procedures. She also coordinates an elective course for third-year veterinary students entitled Animal Pain.
