PreveNile West Nile Virus Vaccine Recalled

May 5, 2010 -- Intervet Schering-Plough announces recall of all serial numbers of PreveNile West Nile Virus vaccine for horses.

May 5, 2010 — Intervet Schering-Plough has announced an urgent recall of all serial numbers and all dose presentations of PreveNile? West Nile Virus vaccine for horses due to an increased number of adverse event reports associated with the use of these vaccines. According to a letter distributed by the manufacturer on April 28, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Center for Veterinary Biologics, has been alerted of this recall.

The recalled serial numbers include one-dose and five-dose vials of the vaccine, and are listed below:

Veterinarians with any of these serial numbers in stock should contact their distributor to arrange for the product’s return. If you have questions about this recall, contact the Intervet Schering-Plough Technical Service Department at 866-349-3497.

The mosquito-borne West Nile Virus infection usually causes little or no illness, but in rare cases it triggers a life-threatening swelling of the brain.
