Created to celebrate the special relationship between horses and dogs, the contest invited readers to share original photos and essays describing the bond between their equine and canine “best friends.”

Vanzant’s entry captured the good-natured mischief a dog named Buster engages in with her horses. In her words, “Buster thinks that the horses are here for him to play tag with. He likes for them to chase him through the pasture. If they do not chase him, Buster will jump up behind one of them and hang from its tail until it will turn to chase him, and off they go!” Vanzant’s submission, one of 155 unique entries, received the greatest number of votes from readers.

As the grand-prize winner, Davidson will receive a package from Blue Seal, Doc’s Products, HorseTech and Merck Animal Health valued at more than $600. Prizes include toys, health products, feed bowls, treats, polo shirts, hats and gloves.
