The National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) in Middleburg, Virginia, has issued an invitation to join acclaimed local artist Gail Guirreri Maslyk June 11–12 for an “inspiring, hands-on oil painting workshop that celebrates process over perfection.”
In this immersive two-day experience, Maslyk will guide participants through the expressive journey of painting horses—encouraging spontaneity, exploration and a deeper connection to one’s creative voice.
“Like a vacation, painting is about the journey, not the destination. The twists and turns are where your unique voice emerges.”
Painting with energy, intention

This workshop emphasizes painting with energy and intention. Participants will explore fast, intuitive techniques that help them stay loose and responsive—learning to recognize when a piece is finished, when to push further, or when to start fresh.
Working with a limited palette, they will uncover surprising color harmonies and new ways to capture form and movement.
Throughout the workshop, Maslyk will share demonstrations, individual guidance and group feedback—all in a supportive, focused environment. This workshop offers a fresh and dynamic approach to oil painting for both seasoned painters and those looking to deepen their practice.
Some experience drawing and painting is helpful. The workshop size is limited to 15 students to ensure personalized attention.

- Morning: Horse Eye Study on an 11×14 panel
- Afternoon: Horse Portrait on a 16×20 panel
