Discover Horses, EquiSearch.com, Jaffer Win Pegasus Awards

January 19, 2008 -- Discover Horses, EquiSearch.com and Equine Network columnist Nancy Jaffer took home top honors in the U.S. Equestrian Federation's 2007 Pegasus Awards for Media.

January 19, 2008 — Source Interlink Media’s Equine Network is proud to announce that Discover Horses, the magazine of the Kentucky Horse Park, has won the United States Equestrian Federation’s (USEF) 2007 Pegasus Award for Specialized Media.

The award, which honors a single-issue publication that promotes the understanding of equestrian sport, was one of three presented by USEF President David O’Connor to connections of the Equine Network during the USEF Awards for Media luncheon January 10 in Louisville, Ky.

“It is such an honor to have the Kentucky Horse Park magazine, Discover Horses, receive such validation and praise from the USEF,” said John Nicholson, executive director of the Kentucky Horse Park. “The Equine Network produces an outstanding piece in keeping with the park’s ambassadorship of sharing the horse industry with the general public, and I am proud to count them a partner of the park.”

The spotlight returned to the Equine Network when EquiSearch.com received the top prize in the USEF’s website category–for the fifth consecutive year. Susan Harding, the vice president and group publishing director for the Equine Network, was on hand to accept both of her company’s awards. “Once again, it was wonderful to see EquiSearch.com acknowledged as THE Internet resource for equestrians,” she said. “I was also moved that Discover Horses has been recognized for working to educate and excite the public about horses and equestrian sport.”

Also in Louisville, Equine Network columnist Nancy Jaffer set a precedent by sweeping both the Photography and Single Article categories. While her winning photo is all about dressage, her article (published in Show Circuit magazine) focuses on one of eventing’s most admired figures–Major General Jonathan (“Jack”) Burton. “I spoke to Jack last night and asked him if he would attend the luncheon,” Jaffer told the USEF’s Brian Sosby. “Unfortunately, he told me he would be judging a horse show!” She dedicated the honor to Burton.

The 2008 issue of Discover Horses, a full-color glossy magazine that celebrates not only the Horse Park and its many educational offerings, but all the attractions that make Lexington, Ky., a unique year-round destination, will be published in April. It will be available at both the Horse Park and local tack shops (packaged with EQUUS magazine). To order a copy ($5 plus shipping), call (301) 977-3900, ext. 0.
