September 15, 2003 -- Here are the highlights of harness racing history from September 16-21.

September 16, 1942 — Joe O’Brien equals Clint Hodgins’ record for wins in a single day at one track by winning 11 races at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia. The record is broken in 1987 by Mike Lachance, who wins 12 races in one day at Yonkers.

September 16, 1978 — Florida Pro, driven by George Sholty, equals the world record for three-year-olds trotting on a five-eighths of a mile track by winning in 1:58.1 at Liberty Bell Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

September 18, 1980 — Niatross, driven by Clint Galbraith, sets the all-age world record for pacing on a half-mile track by winning the Little Brown Jug in 1:54.4 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio. Niatross broke his own record of 1:55, which he set in the Jug’s first heat.

September 18, 1994 — Pine Chip, driven by John Campbell, sets the all-age world record for trotting on a half-mile track by winning in 1:54 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 19, 1979 — Roses Are Red, driven by James Kopas, sets the all-age world record for fillies and mares pacing on a half-mile track by winning in 1:56.3 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 19, 1996 — Stand Forever, driven by John Campbell, sets the all-age world record for pacing on a half-mile track by winning in 1:49.2 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 19, 1999 — Jet Laag, driven by Luc Ouellette, sets the all-age world record for pacing on a half-mile track by winning the Senior Jug in 1:49 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 20, 1940 — Batavia Downs in upstate New York opens.

September 20, 1978 — Cami Almahurst, driven by Bruce Riegle, equals the all-age world record for fillies or mares trotting on a half-mile track by winning in 1:59.1 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 20, 1978 — Passing Glance, driven by George Sholty, sets the all-age pacing record for fillies on a half-mile track by winning in 1:56.4 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 21, 1978 — Falcon Almahurst, driven by Bill Haughton, sets the all-age world record for pacing on a half-mile track by winning in 1:55.2 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

September 21, 2000 — David Ingraham notches win No. 4,000 by driving Juststeponthegas to victory at the Farmington Fair in Maine.
