Dollar Store Finds: For Your Horse’s Health

Trim your horse-keeping expenses by buying some of your incidentals at your local dollar store.

It may take a little digging but you can find many non-horse-specific barn incidentals at your local dollar store—or other discounters—that can do the job and save you a significant amount of money in the long run. So here’s our list of dollar store finds—start with these items and then see what else you can find!

A box of disposable gloves
A box of disposal gloves is just one item you can find at the local dollar store to help you care for your horse.

· A pill crusher to grind pills into powder. Because it’s made of plastic, medication residue can be washed out easily.

· A 60-count box of zipper sandwich bags to store prepared medications for daily administration and a mini stacking bin to neatly store the prepared baggies.

· A plastic pencil box, perfect to store used needles and other sharps before disposing of them in a proper medical receptacle. We particularly liked the fact that this box had an attached lid that can’t be lost.

· 100 disposable gloves to protect our hands from gooey, messy salves such as ichthammol or medicines such as DMSO that can penetrate our skin.
