The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) has posted updated statistics concerning ongoing outbreaks of equine herpes virus, type 1 (EHV-1 ) in California.
EHV-1 most often causes mild-to-moderate respiratory illness (rhinopneumonitis) and fever, but the infection occasionally leads to the life-threatening neurologic disease equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM). The mechanisms through which EHV-1 produces neurologic disease are not yet understood.

Orange county location 1: 23 confirmed cases (2 EHM, 21 fever only)
Orange county location 2: 16 confirmed cases (2 EHM, 14 fever/mild signs)
Orange county location 3: 26 confirmed (2 EHM, 24 fevers)
San Mateo county location 1: 40 confirmed cases (4 EHM, 36 fevers)
San Mateo county location 2: 3 confirmed cases (1 EHM, 2 fever)
Riverside county: 35 confirmed cases (3 EHM, 32 fevers)
Santa Clara county:: 2 confirmed cases (2 EHM)
Sonoma County: 1 confirmed (1 EHM)- New Premises
