On August 10, a 5-year-old warmblood gelding in Marion County, Florida, was confirmed positive for rabies. The horse, who was unvaccinated, started displaying clinical signs on June 30, including ataxia, eating shavings, dribbling urine, self-mutilation, aggression and fever. He has been euthanized.
This is the first confirmed equine rabies case in Florida this year.
