Fantasy Football for Horse Lovers: The Super Bowl Commercials We Wish We Had Seen

Was I the only one wondering why the Budweiser Clydesdales’ faithful Dalmatians weren’t around to welcome the new puppy?

The 2014 Super Bowl may be one to forget. Regrettably, that was just as true of the commercials as it was for the lopsided score. With the sterling exception of the Budweiser Clydesdales’ “Puppy Love” and “Hero’s Welcome” commercials, most of the commercials were completely forgettable.

It wasn’t just horse lovers who found “Puppy Love” appealing; the Clydesdales were voted the #1 commercial of the game for the second year in a row.

To keep you pumped up on how great commercials can (and can’t) be, I put together a fantasy roster of ads for the Super Bowl. Most of these are recent, a few are classics, and the Diet Mountain Dew horse show ad is brand new.

So heat up the leftover wings, put your feet up, and enjoy a super-bowl worthy parade of horse commercials from The Jurga Report:

1 Diet Mountain Dew Horse Show:

2 Dubai World Cup:

3 Anky van Grunsven’s SNS bank commercial:

4. It’s Christmas all year ‘round for Mustad’s three world champion farriers and a reindeer in need of a shoe:

5. Longines transports us to the forest of Chantilly, France, where we can feel the earth shake as the racehorses in training gallop by.

6. A woman and her truck premiered on the baseball all-star game–it should have been on the Super Bowl, too:

and have you met the real woman rider behind the ad?

8. Ron Burgundy took on horses in a series of ads for Dodge Durango (and his new movie):
and have you met the real woman rider behind the ad?

9. This Shetland pony has had over 8 million views on YouTube…and been a great boost for his breed, as well as Scottish tourism:

10. Frivolous, but “treat cyclists like horses” will make you laugh:

11. These ads make fun of a guy who buys a horse but he’d be a hero with this blog readers:

12. Every show has to have product plugs, so here’s one guaranteed to get an equestrian’s attention:

Congratulations if you made it this far!
