The Biggest Grin in Kentucky: Bernardini to Father Zenyatta’s First-Born Foal–But Can He Dance?

Zenyatta‘s owners announced today that Bernardini, the dappled, dark-bay eight-year-old son of A.P. Indy who was Three-Year-Old of the Year in 2006, has been chosen out of all the Thoroughbred stallions on the planet to sire the Horse of the Year’s first foal. Bernardini stands at Darley‘s Jonabell Farm outside Lexington, Kentucky. His first runners have been very successful.

Do you think Zenyatta will dance when they unload her from the van at Darley or when they bring her into the breeding shed? Maybe someone had better teach Bernardini a few steps to impress the Kentucky-bred daughter of Street Cry.

I wonder if the foal be named Zenyardini…or maybe Bernyatta? One thing’s for sure: he or she will be born to run.
