National Clydesdale Sale Relocates to Wisconsin

March 18, 2008 -- The 2008 National Clydesdale Sale has had to change venues due to electrical problems at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

March 18, 2008 — The 2008 National Clydesdale Sale, sponsored by the Clydesdale Breeders of the U.S.A., has been relocated to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisc. Originally planned and scheduled for Springfield, Ill., the relocation became necessary due to electrical problems at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

“The events in Springfield were unfortunate and caught us on very short notice,” says Cathy Behn of the Clydesdale Breeders of the U.S.A. “However, our national sale is an extremely important event to the Clydesdale breed and it had to go on. We looked at several relocation options before our board chose Madison.”

The dates of the sale, April 25-26, will remain the same. Over 200 Clydesdales are entered, and the 2-day event will feature mares, stallions and geldings from breeders throughout Canada and the U.S.A. A mandatory preview of all sale horses will take place the morning of April 25, followed by the sale of Clydesdale geldings. Stallions and mares will be offered on April 26.

Madison was a natural choice for relocation following the success of the World Clydesdale Show held at the same venue last October. It was the most successful Clydesdale event ever, hosting over 600 Clydesdales from around the world that competed in a variety of hitch, halter and riding classes. Over 12,000 spectators were on hand to witness the event.

Aside from the sale itself, a full schedule of events is planned including vendor displays, a tack sale, a pre-sale competition of sale horses (held April 24), and a Clydesdale Association banquet held April 25. A Clydesdale filly will also be raffled off (need not be present to win), with the winner having the choice of taking her home or entering her in the sale.
