Disney’s Secretariat Film Debuts with Lexington, Kentucky Gala Amidst World Equestrian Games Eventing Hoopla

Have you ever heard of a four-ring circus? You’ll see one, and it may well be one the greatest shows ever staged on the horse world earth, the weekend of October 2-3, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Many of us have been waiting to see the new Disney film Secretariat, which will be released to US theaters on October 8. The film stars Diane Lane as owner Penny Chenery.

But the premiere of the wonderful film has been a bit overshadowed by the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, which will be going on in Lexington, Kentucky from September 25 to October 10. This great collection of eight equestrian world championships has never been staged outside Europe before and it will be the largest single sports event ever attempted in Kentucky history. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world will attend, especially on the weekend of October 2-3 for the very popular three-day eventing championship.

On October 2, the Secretariat Festival will be held in nearby Paris, Kentucky, with tours of Claiborne Farm and a Secretariat look-alike contest for horses. This event sounds like fun, too!

In addition to the Games, an impressive International Equestrian Festival trade show and eductional symposium will be going on in downtown Lexington’s convention center and Alltech’s Spotlight Festival of concerts will be in full swing. This is huge.

And yesterday, we learned that Mrs Chenery is in the spirit of the day! Her Secretariat Foundation will host a debut of the film in Lexington with a fundraiser for equine charities on Sunday, October 3.

The screening will be held at the Kentucky Theatre on Sunday, October 3rd at 6:00 pm. Guests are invited to join the attending racing celebrities and Hollywood stars in a red carpet walk prior to the screening and enjoy an exclusive cocktail reception at nearby Portofino’s restaurant following the film.

To quote from the invitation: Two different ticket options are available for the screening event. You may purchase a $125 per person ticket which includes one General Admission advanced screening ticket and general access to the cocktail party following the screening. Also available is a $250 per person ticket which includes one reserved seat in the theater for the advanced screening and a reserved seat at the cocktail party that will be attended by celebrities and film producers.

Tickets are available on a first-come basis exclusively through the website www.Secretariat.com. You may also purchase tickets by phone by calling (502) 893-7997.What a delicious, magnificent, wonderful, fantastic, unbelievable, choose-your-own-favorite-adjective overload of horse world extravaganza in one weekend. Pinch me. And…help me build it all into my budget!PS October 4th is the anniversary of Secretariat’s death. I hope the fundraiser reflects that his death was related to laminitis….
